Bio – Farhan Akhtar is an Indian film maker, director, scriptwriter, singer, lyrists, TV host and actor. Born and brought up in Bombay to the legend Javed Akhtar’s family, He comes from a strong influence of Indian cinema. He did his schooling from the known Maneckji Cooper School followed by pursuing his college in HR College, however, he turned dropout leaving his commerce studies in the midst to pursue his film career working as the assistant director in Lamhe and Himalay Putra. He later established his own production company called Excel Entertainment and embarked with his directorial debut called Dil Chahta hai (2001), which proved a big success that also led the movie a national award.

This followed another movie called Lakshya in 2004, while the same year it witnessed a Hollywood debut for the movie called Bride and Prejudice for which he wrote lyrics. He then went ahead to make a commercially successful movie called Don in 2006, which gave him a critical acclaim. Later in 2007, he also directed a short movie called Positive, which talked about HIV AIDS. As far as his acting career is concerned, he started with Rock On (2008), which again gave him another national award. He also sung a couple of songs in the said movie. He then did another movie called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011, which gave him the best supporting actor award for Filmfare.

The same year he directed the sequel of the movie Don (titled Don 2) that remained one of the most highly acclaimed movies. Finally in the year 2013, he embarked with another successful movie called Bhaag Milkha Bhag, which gave him the best actor Filmfare award. Apart from these movies, he also produced and directed a number of movies, which included Luck By Chance, Karthik Calling Karthik, Game, Talash and Fukrey. Apart from directing and producing films, he also acted in a couple of other movies, which became a big hit, including Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Bombay Talkies and Bhaag Milka Bhaag. He was nominated and awarded for different categories winning different awards. These include, the best director, supporting actor, dialogue, best actor, etc.

Apart from the film world, he is also known for social activism and hence is involved in a number of social projects. This include his popular initiative called MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination), which is basically a social campaign that embarked in 2012 when Akhtar was touched by the rape and murder incidence of the Bombay based lawyer called Pallavi Purkayastha. Besides, he also endorses a number of brands and hosted a TV show known as Oye! It’s Friday on the channel called NDTV Imagine.
